How The School Works

The School is unique in Russia.  It is fosters in the younger political and business leadership of modern Russia a deeper understanding and appreciation of the principles and mechanisms of contemporary democracy. The school is regarded as an intellectual home by thousands of young leaders from every part of the country. It was established in December 1992 and now involves practically all the regions in Russia and many countries of the CIS.

The School was launched with the clear intention of fighting the sterility of the old Soviet mindset and awakening Russia’s fledgling political class to democratic ideas and new ways of thinking and acting.

Over its relatively short life, the School has achieved a great deal. As a standard bearer of democratic thinking it has been a key player in the battle of ideas in modern Russia. The concept had great relevance in the period of political upheaval in which it was conceived and is no less important in the present changing climate.

The School's Programmes

The School’s educational work falls into five general directions. The School:

— conducts seminars;
— delivers round tables;
— publishes books, magazines and newsletters;
— administers a network of its regional alumni associations; and also
— delivers its educational activities to a wider audience via the website in Russian.
